CCLS Hosts ADR Expert Mr. Rana Sajjad Ahmad to Enhance Cross-Border Dispute Resolution Practices Aligned with Pakistan-China Economic Partnerships
On Wednesday, October 30th, the Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) had the privilege of hosting Mr. Rana Sajjad Ahmad, the Founder & President of the Center for International Investment & Commercial Arbitration (CIICA) and Managing Partner of Triage Law. With his vast experience as a Supreme Court advocate and a member of key arbitration panels, he contributed valuable knowledge to our ongoing work. His input on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) proved crucial, particularly in highlighting its role in resolving international commercial conflicts.
During the visit, he was briefed on our ADR project by Mr. Usama Bin Zafar, our Research Associate, and Ms. Minahil Riaz Toor, our Operations and Outreach Lead. They discussed the current progress of the project, focusing on how we are working to integrate culturally sensitive ADR practices that cater to the unique dynamics of the region. The conversation emphasized our commitment to building a framework that enhances legal understanding and cooperation between Pakistan and China, particularly in the context of economic partnerships.
Rana Sajjad's expertise highlights the crucial need for Pakistan to adapt its Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practices to effectively manage growing Chinese investments under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). By evolving ADR practices, Pakistan can strengthen its legal infrastructure, deepen its relationship with China, and efficiently manage cross-border economic activity. This adaptation is vital for resolving disputes efficiently, promoting a stable and prosperous economic environment in Pakistan and beyond, especially considering the rapid infrastructure development and potential eco-environmental vulnerability associated with CPEC projects. Sajjad's insights emphasize the importance of practical steps to bridge existing gaps in Pakistan's ADR practices, aligning with CCLS's commitment to advancing ADR education and research.
