CCLS had Strategic Meeting with Ms. Sarah Tarar on ADR to Enhancing Dispute Resolution Mechanisms to Support Pakistan-China Economic Growth
On Friday, November 8th, Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) held a meeting with Ms. Sarah Tarar, Director of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution in Lahore. The discussion focused on CCLS’s ongoing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) project, which aims to develop dispute resolution frameworks that are adaptable to the cultural and legal contexts of both Pakistan and China, especially in relation to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The CCLS team shared the project’s objectives and its current progress. The conversation highlighted the importance of integrating ADR practices that reflect the legal and cultural dynamics of both countries, helping to address the growing demand for effective dispute resolution mechanisms in the context of Pakistan-China economic cooperation. The team also discussed the role of ADR in fostering mutual understanding and easing the way for Chinese investments in Pakistan.
Ms. Tarar offered valuable input on how to create ADR strategies that can bridge differences in legal systems and ensure smoother cross-border business transactions. She emphasized the need for solutions that are flexible and tailored to the specific challenges of Chinese investments in Pakistan as part of the broader CPEC framework.
The meeting reaffirmed CCLS’s commitment to promoting ADR education, research, and practice. By working to strengthen the legal infrastructure for international business, CCLS aims to support the growing economic ties between Pakistan and China, creating a more stable and effective legal environment for commercial arbitration and dispute resolution.
