Director, Centre for Chinese Legal Studies, LUMS, Receives 2023 Friendship Award

Dr. Sikander Ahmed Shah, Director, Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) and Associate Professor at the Shaikh Ahmed Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL), LUMS, has been honoured with the prestigious Friendship Award 2023 by the Consul General of the People's Republic of China, H.E. Zhao Shireen.

Dr. Shah is one of the seven distinguished individuals in Punjab recognised for their outstanding contributions to fostering collaboration and understanding between Pakistan and China. The award ceremony, held in Lahore on December 21, 2023, acknowledged Dr. Shah’s significant role in promoting Chinese culture, language and legal studies, and his multifaceted contributions to academia and research. The recognition is also testament to his role in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

Commenting on the award, Dr. Shah shared, “This is a deeply humbling and gratifying honour. This recognition acknowledges the collaborative spirit and dedication of my team at CCLS. It symbolises the culmination of our tireless commitment to fostering stronger ties between our institution and Chinese counterparts. It serves as a catalyst, motivating us further to continue advancing scholarly exchanges, promoting cultural understanding, and forging strong relationships between Pakistan and China.”

The award also underscores LUMS’ commitment to fostering international collaborations and contributing to the advancement of legal education and research. Future collaborations between LUMS and Chinese institutions hold immense promise and potential, Dr. Shah added. “Building upon the momentum of this esteemed award, our vision is to deepen academic partnerships, facilitate joint research initiatives, promote language, and culture, and encourage student and faculty exchanges. We also aim to explore comparative legal frameworks, delve into shared challenges, and leverage each other's expertise to address contemporary legal issues faced by our societies,” he shared. 

He also emphasised the importance of this collaboration, saying, “Through seminars, workshops, and collaborative projects, we anticipate fostering a vibrant platform for intellectual discourse that transcends borders, enriches perspectives, and contributes significantly to the global scholarship landscape. Our commitment is to cultivate relationships that not only benefit both institutions but also contribute positively to the socio-economic realm in both Pakistan and China.”
