On October 24th, an online session between LUMS and Wuhan University facilitated meaningful progress in the institutions’ joint Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) project, highlighting the role of ADR in fostering stronger ties between Pakistan and China. The discussion brought together faculty members and students from both universities, sharing insights and setting the groundwork for future collaboration.

Dr. Sikander Ahmad Shah, Director of the Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) at LUMS, opened the session with an overview of the project’s aims and the potential of ADR in addressing cross-border investment challenges. Research Associate Mr. Usama Bin Zafar led a Q&A with Wuhan University’s Professor Gan Yong and Associate Professor Yuan Kang, who highlighted the need for culturally aligned ADR practices, grounded in Chinese legal values and perspectives.

The conversation extended to the role of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in strengthening Pakistan-China relations, with professors from Wuhan underscoring how ADR could facilitate smoother cross-border investments. Wuhan University students also shared perspectives informed by their academic work, enriching the session with ideas on international dispute resolution.

This collaboration reinforced the universities’ commitment to advancing ADR practices and further strengthened the relationship between the two institutions, establishing a solid foundation for ongoing research and knowledge exchange.
