The Centre Undertakes a Critical Project on Alternative Dispute Resolution Project in Pakistan
The Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) at LUMS is elated to share that we have undertaken an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) project in collaboration with the Chinese Consulate. This initiative is poised to contribute significantly to the evolving landscape of ADR in Pakistan.
On October 17, 2024, CCLS had the honor of hosting Dr. Parvez Hassan, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and founder of LUMS, along with Ms. Saima Khawaja, a member of the Board of Trustees of LUMS. During their visit, Dr. Sikander Shah, Director of CCLS, along with Ms. Minahil Toor, Operations and Outreach Lead, and Mr. Usama Bin Zafar, Research Associate, briefed them on the ADR project and its potential impact on enhancing legal cooperation and investment facilitation.
This project is particularly relevant for Chinese businesses operating in Pakistan, especially as investments flow under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key component of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). By establishing effective ADR mechanisms, we aim to create a more conducive environment for Chinese investors, minimizing risks associated with disputes and fostering investor confidence.
Through this collaboration, CCLS is committed to supporting sustainable development and strengthening the legal framework necessary for the success of Chinese investments in Pakistan. The ADR project represents a crucial step toward building a robust and integrated investment landscape that benefits both nations.
