CCLS Talk Series `24-'Globalization of Healthcare Technology and China - A Physician's Perspective
The first session of CCLS Talk Series 24 kicked off with an engaging exploration into the 'Globalization of Healthcare Technology and China - A Physician's Perspective’. Dr. Humayun Bashir, is a physician in Nuclear Medicine, brings 23 years of diverse clinical experience from Pakistan, the UK, and Saudi Arabia. Currently, he is consultant at East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UK) and he has also contributed significantly to the field as the former President of the Pakistan Society of Nuclear Medicine. He shared his invaluable insights on China's pivotal role in global healthcare technology. The session delved into the transformative journey from X-ray to modern medical imaging. In mid 1970s the invention of F18 FDG radiotracer marked a significant leap, revolutionizing molecular imaging and advancing research. Around the turn of 21st century the merger of PET and CT scanners made the clinical application of F18 FDG a clinical success. In 2019 the newly found Chinese company United imaging healthcare introduced worlds first Total body PET-CT scanner, leaping ahead of its competitors. Dr. Bashir highlighted example of the breakthrough in PET-CT technology as an example of the innovative solutions and China's impact on shaping the future of healthcare worldwide.
