BRI and Global Governance: CPEC's Strategic Importance for Pakistan's Economic Future

On 09th October 2024, Ms. Minahil Toor, Operations and Outreach Lead at the Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) at LUMS, participated in a distinguished panel at the 1st International Conference on Breaking Boundaries: Digital Transformation and Innovative Management Science Practices, hosted by PMAS-Arid Agriculture University in collaboration with the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and the Network of Academics of Sciences in Islamic Countries (NASIC). The panel also featured contributions from Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, Assistant Professor of Marketing at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI); Ambassador Babr Amin, former diplomat; Dr. Fazal-ur-Rahman, Executive Director of the Pakistan Council on China and Executive Director of the Understanding China Forum in Lahore; Mr. Khalid Taimur from the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Value Future (PRCCSF); and Dr. Farida Faisal, Associate Professor at UIMS, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi. The panel discussion focused on the critical themes of "Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Global Governance: CPEC's Strategic Importance for Pakistan's Economic Future." Minahil emphasized the increasing significance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in facilitating Chinese investments in Pakistan. She highlighted the pioneering role that CCLS is poised to play in establishing a joint ADR framework between China and Pakistan, which is essential for nurturing an environment conducive to foreign investment and economic collaboration.
 

The event served as an invaluable platform for thought leaders, academics, and practitioners to engage in meaningful dialogue regarding Pakistan's economic future, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation in the context of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Minahil’s insights contributed to a broader understanding of how effective dispute resolution mechanisms can bolster investor confidence and promote sustainable development.
