Judicial Independence in Focus: CCLS Awarded Competitive RASTA Grant for Transformative Research

CCLS

The Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS), Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) at LUMS has been awarded funding under the RASTA Competitive Grants Program (Round 7.0) by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) for its initiative, “Strengthening Judicial Independence: A Data-Driven Approach to Legal, Economic, and Ethical Competency.”

This innovative project aims to assess and enhance judicial competence in Pakistan by evaluating legal, economic, and ethical reasoning through psychometric testing. The initiative will provide valuable, data-driven insights into the strengths and gaps within the judicial system, helping to inform reforms that support judicial independence and accountability.

The project seeks to create a comprehensive framework for capacity building, which will guide the development of policies, training programs, and institutional practices. By leveraging empirical data, it aims to promote a more transparent and effective justice system.

Led by a team of legal scholars, economists, and data scientists, the project will collaborate with judicial bodies, policy experts, and academic institutions to ensure its outcomes have a lasting impact on Pakistan’s legal system.
