PRE-SCO Moot Highlights Collaborative Opportunities
October 10, 2024 – The Institute of Regional Studies, in collaboration with China Media Group, successfully hosted a PRE-SCO moot focused on enhancing regional connectivity and partnerships. This event brought together ambassadors, regional experts, government officials, civil society leaders, and policymakers from the tourism, development, and economic sectors to foster dialogue ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. The platform encouraged cross-sector discussions on regional challenges, with a focus on infrastructure, regional connectivity, and sustainable tourism.
Participants’ explored ways to strengthen economic ties, promote cultural exchange, and enhance cooperation across SCO countries. The event highlighted the essential role of government, civil society, and industry in advancing shared goals, reinforcing collaboration, and setting the stage for meaningful outcomes at the upcoming SCO Summit.
Ms. Minahil Toor (Operations and Outreach Lead), representing the Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) at LUMS, participated in an impactful panel discussion. She underscored the critical role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in facilitating cooperation among member states. Minahil articulated how the SCO can act as a vital platform for promoting a joint ADR framework between China and Pakistan, ultimately benefiting investment flows and regional economic stability.
The discussions at the moot emphasized the necessity of collaboration in areas such as sustainable tourism and economic development, highlighting the potential for enhanced diplomatic initiatives among member countries. Participants shared insights on strategies to overcome challenges and leverage opportunities that could arise from increased regional cooperation.
