Building Ties to Promote Academic and Policy Exchange

CCLS

On November 6th, 2024, the Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) engaged with the Centre for Public Policy and Governance (CPPG) at Forman Christian College University (FCCU) to discuss potential collaboration opportunities and promote academic excellence.

The CCLS team expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to meet Dr. Saeed Shafqat, Director, Dr. Rabia Chaudhry, Assistant Professor, and Ms. Ayesha Saddiqua, Project Research and Public Relations Manager.
The meeting highlighted several potential areas for collaboration, such as joint research and seminars. By bringing together the strengths of both centres in law and public policy, there is an opportunity to address key global challenges. This partnership supports the increasing role of China in international governance and policy, offering a chance to bring Chinese legal viewpoints into broader conversations on global issues. Together, the centres can foster meaningful discussions and contribute to finding solutions to pressing problems.

The discussion covered the establishment of an advocacy group aimed at tackling public policy and legal issues. The group would bring together various institutions to work on projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as environmental protection, climate justice, clean water, and poverty alleviation. China's commitment to the SDGs, especially through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative, makes this collaboration timely and relevant to China’s international policy goals.

The discussion also explored opportunities for student exchange and engagement programs, offering students a chance to collaborate across disciplines, fostering cross-cultural learning and skill development. This is especially significant given China's emphasis on educational exchange programs and people-to-people diplomacy.

Overall, the meeting was promising, with both teams agreeing to pursue future partnerships that will contribute to academic excellence, impactful research, and the advancement of sustainable development. This collaboration reflects both local and global aspirations, drawing on China's growing influence in international law, policy, and development initiatives.
