Lahore, 26th February: His Excellency Consul General Zhao Shiren expressed his unwavering dedication to bolstering the Centre for Chinese Legal Studies (CCLS) at LUMS. The declaration came during the celebration of the Chinese Lantern Festival, hosted by CCLS, and attended by foreign dignitaries, members of the Chinese community, and students and faculty of LUMS. Expressing his commitment to this cause, the Consul General pledged support for various CCLS initiatives, including academic research projects, advocacy endeavors, and commemorative events.

The evening commenced with welcome remarks by Dr. Sikandar Ahmad Shah, Director CCLS, who extended warm wishes of the Lunar New Year to the gathering. Following his remarks, His Excellency Ambassador Syed Hassan Raza, Adjunct Faculty CCLS, addressed the Chinese community and reminisced about his experiences and anecdotes associated with China.

During the inaugural note by His Excellency Consul General Zhao Shiren, he emphasized the importance of fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the two brotherly nations. He highlighted the pivotal role of academic institutions like CCLS can play in promoting Chinese studies, language, and culture in Pakistan.

"We, together with the Centre for Chinese Legal Studies at LUMS, can contribute towards fostering socio-political stability, and laying a strong foundation for economic growth and social development," remarked H.E. Consul General Zhao Shiren.

As a symbol of solidarity and friendship, Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost LUMS, accompanied H.E. Consul General Zhao Shiren to plant a tree outside the SAHSOL building. This gesture epitomized the enduring bond between the Consulate General and LUMS, symbolizing mutual support and collaboration.

The festivities continued with a ceremonial cake-cutting ceremony, accompanied by notable personalities including Ms. Ho Yuk Bing, Principal Chinese International Academy and Deputy Secretary General Chinese Overseas Association, Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman, Director of the Confucius Institute, along with faculty and students of LUMS.

The Chinese Lantern Festival served as a platform for cultural exchange, fostering connections, and building bridges between communities. CCLS extends its heartfelt gratitude to the LUMS Cultural Society for their dedication in supporting the arrangements of the event.
